A move in the wrong direction for QLD waste industry and QLDs waste recycling companies.
REGYP setup in Brisbane due to the waste levy providing the financial numbers number required for steady returns on the intital large capital expenditure for the plant and equipment. The levy not only provides economic benefits to recycle it helps to change the mind set of companies and people to loook for other avenues to landfill.
The industry waste levy effectively ended on 1 July 2012 through an amendment to the Waste Reduction and Recycling Regulation 2011 to set all levy prices to nil. The repeal of the levy was completed when Parliament passed legislation on 5 March 2013 to remove references to the levy from the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011.
