Where does gypsum mining stand?

The tax will apply to all mining and petroleum extraction projects other than current projects which are already subject to the Petroleum Resources Rent Tax (although there will be special provisions to allow these projects to, by election, transition to the new tax).

In advancing the introduction of the Resource Super Profits Tax (RSPT), the Henry Review recommended that low value commodities (such as brown coal, gypsum, lime, limestone and phosphates) be excluded from the tax. The Government has rejected this, arguing that these producers will benefit from transitioning to the Resource Super Profits Tax.
